For babies born in the United States, when returning to China to handle procedures such as household registration, school enrollment, visa extension, or long-term residence permits, it is necessary to provide an authenticated U.S. birth certificate. This refers to the three-level authentication by the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in the United States, which is required for recognition by institutions in mainland China.

Process for U.S. Birth Certificate Notarization and Authentication
- After receiving the birth certificate, take it to the local County Clerk's office for authentication. Before authentication, the scanned copy of the birth certificate should first be notarized by a local Notary Public or a "Certified Copy" should be issued by the competent authority.
- Take the documents authenticated by the County Clerk to the Secretary of State for authentication;
