Frequently Asked Questions

Visa, Apostille, and Translation — Common Questions Answered

China Visa

What documents are needed for a China visa?
Requirements vary by visa type. Generally you need: valid passport, visa application form, photo, and type-specific documents such as invitation letters, itineraries, etc. Call 518-956-5673 for a detailed checklist.
How long does it take? Is expedited processing available?
Standard processing takes 10-15 business days. Expedited service is available at approximately 3-5 business days (subject to consulate schedule and visa type, additional fees apply).
Is an in-person interview required?
In most cases, China visa applications require in-person document submission at a visa center (proxy submission may be available). We can help arrange a more convenient process. Please call for details.
I'm a US citizen but was formerly a Chinese citizen. What extra documents do I need?
You need to provide your former Chinese passport or cancellation proof. If the passport is lost or expired, an additional written explanation is required. Please call to confirm specific requirements.
Are there special requirements for children's visa applications?
Children's applications require copies of both parents' passports and the child's birth certificate. Note: if a parent holds a 2-year conditional green card, they are not considered a permanent resident per consulate regulations.
Can I apply from out of state?
Yes. We serve all 50 US states. Out-of-state clients can mail their documents, and we handle the entire process remotely with regular progress updates.

Hague Apostille

What is an Apostille?
An Apostille is a certificate of authentication under the Hague Convention. Since November 2023, US documents for use in China only require an Apostille — consular legalization is no longer needed.
Which documents can be apostilled?
Birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, death certificates, diplomas, criminal background checks, corporate registration documents, articles of organization, power of attorney, declarations, and more.
How long does an Apostille take?
State Secretary of State: typically 1-10 business days (expedited available). US Department of State (federal documents): approximately 4-11 weeks, mail-in only.
Do I still need a translation after getting an Apostille?
It depends on the receiving party's requirements in China. In most cases, a certified translation is needed alongside the Apostille. We can provide both services together.

Certified Translation

Are your translations accepted by USCIS?
Yes. We are an ATA (American Translators Association) member. Our certified translations meet USCIS requirements, including translator certification statement, signature, and seal.
How long does translation take?
Typically 1-3 business days. Rush same-day or next-day service is available. Complex or large-volume documents may require additional time.
Can I receive an electronic copy only?
Yes, we can provide electronic copies (PDF) as well as paper originals (mailed). Some agencies may require paper originals — please confirm with the receiving party.
