What documents need to be notarized for getting married in China? Unmarried status certificate?

Question:

What preparations are needed to return to China for marriage? How to obtain a notarized certificate of being unmarried or a single status certificate?

Answer:

According to the "Marriage Registration Regulations," overseas Chinese registering their marriage at a domestic marriage registration authority must provide proof of being unmarried and having no direct lineal or collateral kinship within three generations with the other party.

This certificate can be issued as a notarized document by a notary institution in the country of residence and authenticated by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country, or it can be issued directly as a notarized document by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country.

It is recommended that overseas Chinese residing abroad complete the relevant certification procedures in advance before returning to China to get married. The notarized certificate of being unmarried is valid for 6 months from the date of issuance.
